Mount Kenya isn’t just Africa’s second-highest peak — it’s one of the most ecologically extraordinary mountains on the continent, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site shaped by ancient glaciers sitting almost exactly on the equator. Over 9 days, we’ll move through five distinct ecosystems: dense montane rainforest, eerie bamboo zones, heather moorlands, and finally the otherworldly Afro-alpine zone — a landscape of giant lobelias, towering groundsels, and turquoise glacial tarns that exists almost nowhere else on Earth. This expedition is built for two kinds of adventurer, moving together as one community:

The Trekking Route — Point Lenana (4,985 m)
For strong hikers ready to push into serious altitude, Point Lenana is the classic Mount Kenya summit. It’s a non-technical climb — no ropes, no rock skills required — but the steep pre-dawn ascent under headlamp, breaking onto the summit ridge as the sun rises over the Kenyan plains, is one of the most rewarding sunrises in African mountaineering. Expect glacial lakes, dramatic ridgelines, and a real sense of high-altitude achievement.

The Technical Route — Batian (5,199 m) & Nelion (5,188 m)
For experienced climbers seeking the real prize, the twin summits of Batian and Nelion are pure alpine rock — multi-pitch routes on steep, sun-warmed granite at over 5,000 m. We’ll climb roped, with full protection, on classic lines that demand solid trad skills, fitness at altitude, and a head for exposure. This is one of the most underrated technical climbs in Africa, and summiting Batian puts you in rare company.

Safari Extension — Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After the mountain, we trade harnesses for game drives. Ol Pejeta sits right at the foot of Mount Kenya — no long transfers, no internal flights, just a short drive and you’re inside one of East Africa’s most remarkable wildlife sanctuaries. It’s home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, the largest black rhino population in East Africa, all of the Big Five, and a chimpanzee sanctuary rescuing animals from the illegal bushmeat trade. Game drives at dawn, sundowners with Mount Kenya glowing pink behind you, nights under canvas — the perfect counterpoint to the mountain.
